How to Perform Scoliosis-Specific Stretches at Home

Living with scoliosis can make everyday movements feel challenging, but small adjustments at home can support your comfort and mobility. At LaGrange Chiropractic in LaGrange, KY, we encourage patients to practice safe, scoliosis-specific stretches that complement in-office treatment. These simple exercises can relieve stiffness, encourage proper alignment, and give you more confidence in caring for your spine between visits.

Cat-Cow Stretch

This stretch helps improve spinal mobility and posture awareness. Begin on your hands and knees with your wrists under your shoulders and knees under your hips. Inhale as you arch your back and lift your chest, then exhale as you round your spine and tuck your chin. Repeat slowly for several breaths, keeping your movements gentle and controlled.

Child’s Pose with Side Stretch

From a kneeling position, sit back on your heels and extend your arms forward on the floor. Walk your hands to the right side, then hold to create a lengthening stretch along the left side of your spine. After several breaths, walk your hands to the left to stretch the right side. This movement supports balance and relieves tightness in the back.

Pelvic Tilts

Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Place your hands on your hips, then gently tilt your pelvis forward and back. This exercise strengthens your core and promotes stability around the spine. Perform several repetitions with slow, steady movement.

Seated Side Stretch

Sit comfortably with your legs crossed or extended in front of you. Place your right hand on the floor and raise your left arm overhead, reaching to the right while keeping your chest open. Hold the stretch briefly, then switch sides. This move helps release tightness along the sides of the spine.
